Hope you are doing great. In this post, we shall be talking about FRIENDS (1994-2004), an NBC sitcom that gained popularity right during the telecast of its first season. To be honest, I am a die-hard fan of this amazing TV series and therefore I never miss a chance to talk about it. It’s been more than a decade since the show ended after a successful run of its tenth season. Still, the craze for the show doesn’t seem to be abated. I mean, could an old show be more popular? 😀
Although, FRIENDS holds a very special place in our hearts but some people don’t agree with the fact. A true “FRIENDS” fan can list hundreds of reasons to love the show and I am one of them. Here are some of those obvious reasons that prove that FRIENDS (1994-2004) is the best tv show ever.
There are no larger than life characters, no fairy tales and no exaggerated plot in the show. It is completely related to the reality of life. In the pilot episode, Monica Geller tells her friend Rachel – ‘Welcome to the real world. It sucks! You’re gonna love it.’ This memorable quote from the show says much more than its words. In fact, the theme song perfectly represents the message of the show.
- Ultimate Dose of Humor and Sarcasm
When we talk about sarcasm, the first name that comes to our mind is Chandler Bing. I can list out like hundreds of funny lines by him but some of my most favorites are; ‘I just realizes I can sleep with my eyes open’ and ‘until I was 25, I thought that the only response to “I love you” was “Oh crap!”’.
- Strings Attached to Inspiration
I must say that this is the only show in which every character can inspire you. Monica and Chandler went through terrible childhood and yet they managed to set a mark for themselves in life. Ross had 3 failed marriages but he never gave up on relationships. Joey struggled for years in entertainment industry to achieve his dreams. Rachel proved that running from the wedding wasn’t a bad decision for her. Pheobe, besides having horrible childhood memories, managed to keep a living spirit.
The plot of the show includes regular coffee shop where 6 friends hand out and discuss their work and love life. They all have several issues that belong to the life of a common person. Moreover, the show was way ahead of its time and the episode with lesbian wedding is an ample example of it.
- Cheerful Spirit of All Characters
They all had troubles in their lives like all of us but none of them felt bad about it. In addition, they had each other to share all kinds of ups and downs. These 6 wonderful people made us believe what it’s like to pass through every situation with the help of friends.
Who can forget the immortal love stories of Monica-Chandler & Ross-Rachel? Mondler (Monica Geller & Chandler Bing) gave us the perfect example of how true lovers complete each other. Besides, the story of Ross and Rachel made us believe that the actual feeling of love can never die. Remember when Rachel comes to Ross’ apartment and says – “I got off the plane.” Epic!
- Positivity in Relationships
There is no rule that breaking up is all about conflicts and animosity. This show teaches us to maintain the friendliness even when a relationship is broken. Ross always treated her ex-wife Carol as a friend after their divorce and accompanied her all through the birth and up-bringing of their son Ben.
Other than FRIENDS, I hardly remember a show in which supporting actors have delivered such an impressive performance to bring their characters to the fore. Characters like Jack & Judy Geller, Susan (the partner of Ross’ ex-wife), Gunther and Mr. Heckles are some honorable mentions here. And, Oh My God, how could I forget our jaunty Janice?
So, what is your opinion now? I am sure that if you haven’t watch this series yet, then these reasons will definitely make you watch the show today. If you are already a fan, then please let me know your reason to be a regular fan of this cult TV series.
